Yoshitomo Nara (Japanese)

Yoshitomo Nara is one of the influential artists of Japan’s Neo Pop movement that began to flourish in the late 1990’s. He is known for images of cute yet impish children and animals, often brandishing toys like weapons. Adapting Manga, Anime and Punk Rock style, Nara blends traditional Japanese imagemaking with Western Modernism to create his intensely emotional characters. He is known for his paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics, and large-scale installations.
Yoshitomo Nara’s artwork has been exhibited worldwide with more than 50 solo exhibitions since 1984. His artwork is represented in internationally known art museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA) in Los Angeles, CA.
