Post-Impressionist painter Vincent van Gogh was Viewed tragically in the annals of art history, van Gogh’s amazing markmaking systems, vibrant colors and impasto surfaces continue to influence artists around the world. Including a range of subjects from agricultural and small town landscapes to portraits, still life and flower paintings, his work has had far-reaching influence on 20th and 21st century art. Incredibly prolific during his short life van Gogh completed more than 2,100 works, consisting of 860 oil paintings and more than 1,300 watercolors, drawings and sketches.
In the early 1900s, van Gogh had retrospective exhibirtions in Paris (1901 and 1905) and the Stedelijk, Amsterdam (1905), and major group exhibitions with the Sonderbund westdeutscher Kunstfreunde und Künstler, Cologne, Germany (1912), Armory Show, New York (1913), and Berlin, Germany (1914). Thus began the immense impact on later generations of artists.
Vincent van Gogh is represented in museum and private collections internationally with the world’s largest collection at the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
